repeat of October 7, 2009 training
In this practical and hands-on workshop, staff of the Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition will examine with participants the meaning of “prevention,” as it relates to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. We will utilize “continuum of attitudes” and “messages” exercises that examine participants’ personal opinions about substance use, as well as the messages we receive from family, school, media, friends and other role models about substance use, in order to examine the unique role of child care providers in the health and safety of the children in their care. Participants will receive resource packets and useful information on prevention concepts for families with children aged 0-5. BAPC will offer a Part II of this workshop on April 14, 2010. This optional follow-up workshop will expand upon the concepts covered in Part I and provide an opportunity to begin to review evidence-based prevention curricula for use in your child care setting (with children and/or parents). We will also review drug-free workplace policies and resources for your child care program. Taught by a representative from Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition.
